Women’s Basketball
Hong Tran joined the University of Cincinnati Sports Performance staff in June 2021 as Director of Sports Performance. In her role at UC, Tran works directly with the with the women’s basketball program. Her responsibilities include the physical development of UC players to perform optimally while decreasing their likelihood of injury. She is closely involved in the preparation of each player's readiness for practices and games via training, nutrition, recovery, and education. Tran came to Cincinnati from Western Kentucky where she served as Assistant Director Strength & Conditioning from 2017-21. She oversaw the performance efforts of the women’s basketball and women’s soccer programs. Prior to WKU, Tran worked at South Florida (2014-17), starting as an athletic performance intern for women’s basketball & men’s golf programs, before moving into a full-time role as Strength & Conditioning Assistant. While at USF, she worked primarily with football and softball later transitioned to men’s and women’s track and field and cross country while assisting with various Olympic sports. Tran is a graduate of Saint Leo University where she earned her bachelor’s and earned her master’s years later in sport administration & recreation with a concentration in intercollegiate athletics. Tran is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach. She is a Certified Speed Specialist with the NASE and First Aid, CPR and AED certified. She has also completed the USTFCCCA Strength and Conditioning program.
Jamie Preiss (pronounced Price) is currently in his 7th season as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Women’s basketball and Women’s golf at the University of Michigan. Prior to his current role, Preiss spent two years as a fellow and two years as a graduate assistant with the Michigan Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning department. Additionally, he was a volunteer intern for the Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning department at the University of Notre Dame from June through August 2012. While at Michigan, Preiss has also worked with men’s gymnastics, men’s tennis, men’s lacrosse, and assisted with volleyball and wrestling. In his 7 seasons as the strength and conditioning coach for women’s basketball, Preiss has helped lead the program to 5 NCAA tournament appearances, 2 NCAA Sweet 16 appearances and Michigan Women’s basketball first NCAA Elite 8 appearance in 2022. He was also a part of 2 NCAA Finals appearances for the Women’s golf program and the programs first Big Ten Championship in 2022. He holds a Master of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University and completed his Bachelors of Science degree at Central Michigan University. Preiss is currently certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and by USA Weightlifting as a Sports Performance Coach
Abigail Eiler, LMSW, MSW, QMHP, IMGCA-II is a licensed clinical social worker and educator with nearly 20 years of experience working in tribal and non-tribal communities across the country and in Canada. She is Clinical Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Michigan, as well as the most recent former Chief Diversity Officer, Assistant Athletic Director, and Director of Athletic Counseling for Michigan Athletics. As a former nationally ranked multi-sport athlete, as well as Michigan alumnus, Professor Eiler uses her first-hand knowledge in conjunction with research and years of specialized clinical training to provide patient-centered, strengths-based, and culturally-responsive mental health treatment and performance services. Professor Eiler is committed to improving student-athlete and professional athletes and staff mental health outcome
Michelle Van Dyke is entering her first season as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Pitt women's basketball team in 2023-24.
Van Dyke comes to Pittsburgh after spending the 2022-23 campaign with the UConn women's basketball program as sport performance coach. While in Storrs, Van Dyke helped to lead the daily use of Catapult technology for all practices and competitions for all women's basketball players while also collaborating with the athletic training staff on appropriate return to play protocol for athletes based on collected data.
Prior to spending last season at UConn, Van Dyke spent two seasons at Milligan University as the strength and conditioning coach and sport scientist for the men's basketball program.
Van Dyke spent two years as a Kinesiology Lecturer at Youngstown State from 2018-2020 and was also selected as the Chinese Olympic Committee sport performance coach in 2018 where she helped to lead the delivery of evidence-based performance training centered around athlete health during off-season periods for Chinese Olympians and Olympic hopefuls.
She earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science from Shepherd University in 2008 after being a member of the women's basketball team. She earned her master's degree in kinesiology from Georgia Southern in 2010. Van Dyke graduated with her Doctorate of Philosophy in Sport physiology & sports science in Dec 2023 from East Tennessee State University.
Abby Grimm, MS, RDN, LDN, IFNCP is a board certified functional medicine dietitian based in Cleveland, OH. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Dayton and completed her Master of Science in Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University, where she currently teaches as an adjunct instructor. She works in private practice for FWDfuel Sports Nutrition, a company focused on bridging the gap between conventional sports nutrition and functional sports nutrition. Abby guides individuals using a whole-food approach and individualized nutrition protocols to reverse chronic illness and improve athletic performance. She also specializes in working with female athletes who suffer from hormone imbalances, menstrual irregularities, and poor gut health. Abby is on a mission to help athletes understand their physiology, particularly the critical role food plays in optimizing hormonal and gut health, to, in turn, escalate human performance. Abby has been quoted as an expert source in publications such as Mind Body Green, The Huffington Post, Well and Good Magazine, and Hum Nutrition.
